When I step into a closet, I like it to be nice looking, organized by category and then by color. The closet should be a well-lit room and should let a great visibility to your clothing and accessories this will save you a lot of time to create your look. Previously I used to put arrange all my shoes in cardboard boxes and it was impossible to find the pair wanted in less than 5 minutes. I had even forgotten some shoes by hiding them in those cardboard boxes. Since I use a glass door cabinet, I don’t lose time anymore because it is now stored in a practical and visible manner.

Everyone has his/her own way to store, per color, per category. Some prefer just fold and others only use a closet. Personally I prefer to use both methods. I give below some tips you are free to adopt or adapt in your way. After several tests, I found a storage method that helped me enormously to gain time to find, choose my clothes and accessories quickly. You just need to invest in good furniture and storage accessories but at first save enough time for organizing your wardrobe. Each season, I clean up.

DECISION
Many clothes stayed in my cabinets without being worn for several months and therefore day after day the place in my dressing room became really small. Therefore I had to ask myself some questions about the clothes, accessories and jewelry that I wanted to keep, donate or discard.

– Does it fit me? Size, suitable for my age, in good condition.
– Can I combine it with other items from my closet and realize at least three different outfits?

If one answer is “No” at one of those questions, I give or I throw if the item is in poor condition.

FURNITURE & STORAGE
For a nice wardrobe, I absolutely needed an open closet. I think if you don’t like or you’re not good at folding your clothes, this is the ideal solution for not having a disorganized closet. Having a closet without a door allows me to have all my clothes and accessories exposed and get a sense of the choices available to create an outfit. I hang blazers, blouses, shirts, skirts, dresses, pants and leather. The same styles of hangers are used for this group because-they create some visual harmony. For winter coats, I use a small wider and solid hangers to maintain their shape well.

I rank by category, length and color. For example, short skirts from the darkest to the lightest and then the midi length skirts from the darkest to the lightest. Then the evening skirts so I hang the clothes I wear occasionally. However if you wear more often long skirts than mini skirts I suggest you do the opposite. Always highlight the clothes and accessories that you use permanently. I do this for all categories of clothing and accessories. Another advantage with this method is that you’ll notice quickly what colors and clothing category are or not enough present in your wardrobe.

I fold thick sweaters, T-shirts,  jeans and tank tops.

SHOES
My shoes are stored in a library. Some furniture can be diverted from their primary function with just a little imagination. It is not expensive and it is much larger than a traditional shoe cabinet. The shoes I wear less often are stocked in semi-transparent shoe boxes.
ACCESSORIES
I use various storage boxes found at Ikea or home decor shops or DIY stores. They are useful when we want to store by style and color. My belts, I hang them on hooks and so they are always visible. My bags are on shelves like books. And for jewelry you’ll find more information about this post.
